Hydrology & Hydrogeology have important roles to play in meeting the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), especially in the move towards good river body and groundwater status and in the development of river basin management plans and catchment abstraction management strategies (CAMS). Water abstracted from rivers and from aquifers below ground is used to supply to a significant section of households in Ireland and this is likely to increase into the future.
